Prior to 80’s there was unrest due to inter union revelry each union trying to gain supremacy over another. Under such circumstances issues became a daily routine

As there was no separate Association for Stevedores, Cocanada chamber of commerce directly delta with stevedore related issues. With allied activities chamber of commerce could not concentrate and cope up with mounting pressure. Therefore our chairman Cocanada chamber of commerce Sri Dantu Surya Rao and other senior of the trade such as Sri Annavarapu Kasivishwanatham, Sri Gadam Venkata Rao, Sri Varanasi Bhaskar Rao, Sri Addepalli Ramakrishna, Sri Mula Suryanarayana Sharma, Sri Juddu Subba Rao, Sri Merandah, and others, thought it necessary to form a separate Association to deal with the Stevedore related issues.

Thus the Kakinada Port Stevedore Association came in to existence in the year 1983. We have completed 32 years successfully. We feel proud to state that we on completion of 25 year in the year 2008 our association celebrated its silver jubilee on grand scale. Shree M.M.PALLAMRAJU The Then Minister of state for Defence was the Chief Guest and Sri Dantu Surya Rao, Chairman Cocanada Chamber of Commerce presided over the meeting. We were fortunate to obtain the consent of the following eminent persons as Guest of Honour Dr.K.V.Krishna Kumar, Secretary Federation of Association of Stevedores, Managing Director of M/S K R & Sons, Capt Diwaker Rao the than Port Officer, Kakinada, Sri Muralidhar, Kakinada Sea Ports Ltd, Sri K.Nageswar Rao, the than Chairman Zilla Parishad, Krishna District, Sri Suresh Kumar Sharma the than President Customs Clearing & forwarding Agents Association, Kakinada, Sri Pithani Nooka Raju, General Secretary Kakinada Port Stevedores Staff &Workers Union Kakinada.

We also took pride in felicitating our senior member Sri Annavaram Kasi Vishwanadham, Sri uduth Ranga rao, Sri Vannapalli Jagadeswarao, and Sri Jiddu Venkata Subba rao.

For the First time in the trade History in recognition of the service of supervisors, Foreman and stevedore worker we have chosen 33 senior most worker of different categories for felicitation.

In the year 2011 Our association took the initiative in bringing steamer agents association and cha association on line and purchased a site jointly and constructed a modern office building at Pallamraju Nagar Kakinada. In the year 2011 Our Association took the initiative and prevailed upon M/s Kakinada Seaports Ltd., and arranged for a cooking place for the stevedore workers, in the near proximity of the Port. The same was handed over the Worker’s Union by the Chairman, The Coconada Chamber of Commerce, Kakinada.

Our Association revise the Stevedore Worker rates binneal. The Kakinada Port Stevedore workers are reasonably disciplined and obident. We are known for speed loading and good stacking with proper ventilation channels, resulting in a better stowage factor.
